Doctors on Trial for Patient’s Death Following Surgery in Casablanca Clinic

The trial of two doctors and the legal representative of a private clinic, accused of having caused the death of a patient through negligence and medical errors, opened before the Casablanca correctional court.
It all started with a complaint filed by the husband of a patient who died after undergoing a hysterectomy to eradicate a cancerous tumor. In his complaint, he accuses a specialist in gynecological surgery, another in intestinal surgery, as well as the owner of a private clinic in Casablanca of having caused the death of his wife through negligence and medical errors, reports Assabah. The accused are being prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter and complicity. An in-depth investigation, carried out by the criminal brigades, would have revealed errors that caused the victim’s death. Their trial opened before the Casablanca correctional court.
The patient suffered from cancer that had reached her uterus. Disease confirmed by a diagnosis. She will then be hospitalized for a surgical procedure to perform a hysterectomy. The operation is a success. The patient’s husband said that his wife’s health had initially been considered normal. But two days later, she began to feel severe abdominal pain and was taken back to the clinic. New tests revealed an infection in the digestive system and the presence of fluids in the abdomen. Her husband was then awaiting the results of a new intervention. But he was surprised to learn that his wife would be urgently transferred to another clinic in the city, due to unexpected complications, particularly at the level of the intestines.
The managers of the second establishment claimed that they had found the patient’s intestines outside her abdomen, attached to a bag, and that she had a fever. The patient’s husband contradicts these facts. He stated that his wife’s intestines were in good condition after the very first surgical operation. His wife was placed in intensive care and underwent new tests. The tests revealed that she was suffering from kidney failure, as well as a failure of three vital organs. She receives intensive treatment and the administration of antibiotics, but she will not have survived. She dies two days later.
