He enters a Casablanca clinic for 15,000 dirhams, but the bill rises to 170,000

A family says it had to call the police to get an elderly patient out of a private clinic in Casablanca. The gallbladder operation was supposed to cost around 15,000 dirhams, but the facility allegedly ended up demanding nearly 170,000 dirhams.

The patient had been admitted to undergo gallbladder removal. Before the procedure, his relatives say they had agreed with the clinic on an amount of around 15,000 dirhams.

Once the operation was completed and the patient’s condition had stabilized, the family thought they would be able to take him home. They then claim to have discovered a bill close to 170,000 dirhams, more than eleven times the amount initially announced.

The relatives disputed the amount and requested explanations about the billed charges. Any tests, medication or additional services that might justify such a difference are not detailed in the account reported by Rue20.

Police intervene to get the patient out

According to the family, the patient remained in the clinic despite having completed his hospitalization, with the financial dispute preventing his discharge. His relatives then requested police intervention.

The officers went to the scene, and the patient was ultimately able to leave the facility. However, this intervention did not resolve the dispute over the bill or any amounts that may be owed.

The clinic’s identity has not been made public. Its management has also not provided its version of events or explained how a cost announced at 15,000 dirhams became a bill of 170,000 dirhams.
