British Tourist Stranded in Moroccan Hospital Over Unpaid Medical Bill

In Marrakech, a British tourist finds herself stuck in a clinic because of her inability to pay a heavy medical bill. She also faces threats of arrest.
A vacation that turns into a nightmare for Collette Robinson. She was on vacation at the Valeria Madina Club Resort in Marrakech with a friend. While sitting by the pool on February 11, this British tourist suddenly began to vomit. Admitted urgently to the Averroès clinic, she was quickly taken care of. The doctors diagnosed her with a heart attack and fitted her with a stent, reports MailOnline. The former pub landlady is still alone in the hospital and has to raise £22,000 to pay her medical bills.
While she has travel insurance, Colette Robinson had not reported a previous heart attack that occurred in September 2024. As a result, her insurer refused to cover the medical expenses. Her 30-year-old son Jack and she have proposed a staggered payment of the medical bill. A proposal rejected by the clinic which demands immediate and full payment. According to them, the doctors at the Averroès clinic have warned that Collette risked being arrested if she did not pay the full amount demanded.
"I’ve compared prices in Morocco and I’ve never seen anyone pay that much for it. She continues to receive threats of arrest," laments Jack. He doesn’t have the means to cover these medical expenses and facilitate his mother’s return to the United Kingdom. "I can’t go (to Morocco) until I know if I can go get her and bring her home." He continues: "My mother is recovering, but she is a prisoner of this situation. Her mental state is deteriorating because she knows she can’t leave the hospital until she’s paid the requested amount," the thirty-year-old confides.
Faced with this situation, Jack had to launch a fundraiser.
