Tourist Assaulted in Marrakech After Taxi Fare Dispute

A tourist filed a complaint against a Marrakech taxi driver who allegedly verbally and physically assaulted her after she refused to pay the 10 dirhams set by the driver without activating the meter.
The incident took place on Saturday. The victim claims that she got into the taxi. Upon arrival at the destination, the driver asked her to pay 10 dirhams, even though he had not activated the meter. Surprised, the lady pointed out that she usually pays at most 7 dirhams for this distance.
The driver allegedly became angry following these remarks from his customer, which led to a heated argument between the two. To avoid trouble, the tourist ended up paying the amount demanded by the driver before getting out of the vehicle. She then took care to note down the taxi number in order to file a complaint.
Furious, the driver reportedly got out of the taxi and began to verbally, then physically assault her, violently pulling the tourist’s arm to forcibly take her to the police station. This violent behavior sparked outrage among the witnesses present, who sided with the customer who, according to them, was within her rights to demand the activation of the meter.
