Grenoble Activists Launch Petition to Allow Burkinis in Public Pools

The activists of the Citizen Action have decided to launch a petition "My Body My Choice My Swimsuit" in order to collect the signatures of the inhabitants of Grenoble, in accordance with the new system of citizen appeal set up by the city, with a view to bringing the burkini back into the regulations of the municipal swimming pools.
A delegation from the Citizen Alliance met with Grenoble elected officials in July to discuss the issue of the ban on the burkini and other covering swimsuits in municipal swimming pools. "Nothing will change for the summer of 2021," they had been assured. This is why the activists have decided to act for the year 2022 by launching a petition "My Body My Choice My Swimsuit" in order to collect the signatures of the inhabitants of Grenoble who support their cause.
After almost reaching the bar of the first 500 signatures (470), they have made an appointment again with city technicians and two elected officials, Céline Menetrier, deputy mayor for sports, and Chloé Le Bret, delegate councilor for Equality. The meeting will take place on October 27 and will make it possible to harmonize the points of view for a change in the swimming pool regulations.

"We will have no problem getting the 1,000 signatures to trigger the creation of a citizens’ assembly, with 20 Grenoble residents drawn by lot who, after hearing from experts, will make recommendations that will be examined in the city council. Then we will have to go up to 8,000 signatures to obtain a municipal referendum. That’s our goal," the activists said, deploring the fact that for three years, the municipal elected officials and "especially the mayor, have been kicking their proposals into touch".
