CenterParcs Burkini Controversy Reignites Debate on Muslim Swimwear in France

A member of the Rassemblement national (RN) party published a CenterParcs poster authorizing the burkini worn by Muslim women on the beach or in the pool.
"The Burkini authorized in the CenterParcs: are we bothering you too much there?!", wrote Catherine Griset, member of the national office of the RN party, on her Twitter account. This is enough to relaunch the controversy over the wearing of this ample and modest swimsuit. Except that the poster published by the elected official dates from 2015.
For a few years now, some town halls have banned the wearing of the burkini on their beaches. This is the case of the town hall of Nice. In 2016, it had banned this swimsuit on its beaches. "The full concealment of the face or the wearing of a full outfit to go to the beach does not correspond to our ideal of social relations", had written Christian Estrosi, first deputy (Les Républicains) to the town hall of Nice in a correspondence addressed to the Prime Minister at the time, Manuel Valls.
