A giant amusement park in Marrakech?
The Ministry of Tourism has placed the development of leisure activities at the heart of its new national strategy. This roadmap aims to attract more visitors and extend the length of their stays throughout the kingdom.
The Moroccan Tourist Engineering Company is currently supporting nearly 1,500 entertainment projects to transform the country’s offering. More than a hundred of these establishments are already operational and offer economic models deemed consistent and sustainable. For the authorities, entertainment has become an economic segment inseparable from the overall transformation of Moroccan tourism.
The action plan is unfolding in two precise stages. The first phase concerns medium-sized projects dedicated to games and adventure tourism. The second stage plans the creation of large-scale amusement parks to meet the expectations of the 19.8 million tourists visiting the country. This strategy was recently presented in Marrakech at an international summit bringing together more than a hundred investors and industry experts, according to L’Economiste.
Morocco thus wishes to become a competitive destination compared to the American, Asian or Middle Eastern giants. The development of a theme park remains an expensive operation whose profitability depends on the interest of tourists and local residents. The Minister of Tourism specified that these projects are a priority and can benefit from financing through the Investment Charter. A 200-hectare site has already been identified in the Marrakech-Safi region to host a future park financed 100% by the private sector.
