Ghent Striker Tissoudali Returns from Injury, Aims to Regain Top Form

Monday 8 May 2023, by Prince

Injured in the cruciate ligament last summer during the home match against STVV, Tarik Tissoudali resumed training at the end of March. The Moroccan-Dutch striker of Ghent says he is "fully recovered" and ready to take on new challenges with the club.

"No, I’m not at my pre-injury level yet, but I’m completely recovered. Now I have to react a little faster and dare a little more," Tissoudali said in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, stating that he did not have too many injuries during his rehabilitation. "I really gave it my all. Just like the physiotherapists. If I score a first goal, I’ll do something for them. Now I realize how important these people are to us," added the Moroccan-Dutch striker.

Tissoudali is full of recognition and gratitude after recovering from this injury, and especially after talking to the brother of Abdelhak Nouri, victim of a cardiac arrest in the middle of a match in 2017. "Nouri is doing better, but in our culture, we always say that everything is fine. We are grateful for what we have. This attitude also helped me during my rehabilitation. I learned a lot. I realized that I still had the chance to return to the highest level."

During the period of the Moroccan international’s injury, Ghent recruited Hugo Cuypers and Gift Orban to strengthen its attack. Tissoudali is not afraid of the competition and does not see himself leaving the club next summer. "I certainly won’t leave, he assures. It was always my intention to stay. Out of respect for Ghent, I would never go to another Belgian club. I didn’t sign a contract extension until 2026 for nothing..."
