German Auto Supplier Prettl Opens New Factory in Tangier, Creating 800 Jobs

Automotive groups continue their investments in Morocco with the inauguration this week by the German Prettl of a new unit in the country, more precisely in Tangier.

This factory, which covers an area of 26,000 m2, will have a capacity of around 30 million parts per year, the group said when the work was launched in January 2018, specifying that a tranche was to be inaugurated in 2019, which is therefore the case today, while the second tranche is to be delivered in 2021.

Prettl specializes in cable harnesses and should therefore supply the main automakers established in Morocco, including Renault Tangier and the Peugeot Kenitra plant, whose commissioning is scheduled for a few weeks. Part of the production will also be exported abroad.

Erhart Prettl, CEO of the Prettl group, explained "having found in Morocco the potential and human resources to meet the challenge of the change that the automotive industry is experiencing," justifying the choice of the city of Tangier by its infrastructure and the security of investments in the city.

It should be noted that the peculiarity of this factory is that it will produce a large part of its energy thanks to the installation on its roofs of more than 1000 m2 of solar panels whose annual production will be around 90 megawatts.
