Canadian Auto Parts Giant Magna Invests $11.3 Million in New Morocco Plant

Investments in the automotive sector continue in the Kenitra region with the start of construction of the plant of the Canadian group Magna International, which has just put 100 million dirhams (11.3 million dollars) on the table.
Located near the plant of the French group Peugeot, whose opening is scheduled for this year, this unit will supply the French automaker (and others as well) with exterior and interior rearview mirror systems.
Built on an area of 6,000 m2, the new plant is scheduled to start production in the spring of 2020, the group says, specifying that it should employ some 275 people at launch.
"Expansion in Morocco is a strategic move for Magna, as our customers continue to grow in the region," said John O’Hara, president of Magna Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting, welcoming the large number of skilled employees and engineering talent in the region.
It should be noted that the Moroccan subsidiary was created at the beginning of the year and has a headquarters in the Atlantic Free Zone of Tangier. It is led by Frenchman Pierre Guédès, according to confidences from the newspaper l’Economiste.
