Gas Leak Claims Lives of Couple in Moroccan Resort Town of Ifrane

Two lovers died, in Ifrane in a furnished apartment in the early hours of Tuesday. An accidental butane gas leak would be the cause of this tragedy.
The two lovers, whose identity is not yet known, met in a furnished apartment in the same city. While they were busy in the bedroom, the butane gas from the bathroom leaked, causing their death, reports the daily Al Massae.
Alerted, the elements of the judicial police opened an investigation to elucidate this case which has caused emotion in the small Moroccan Switzerland. The bodies of the two victims (a fifty-year-old native of Meknes and his thirty-year-old companion) were evacuated to the morgue for autopsy.
The investigation opened under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office made it possible to hear the intermediary and the owner of the apartment. According to the same daily, the owner would be prosecuted for the arrangement of a dwelling for the purposes of prostitution, in addition to his responsibility on the state of the heating installations which would be defective.
Following this tragedy, the authorities decided to monitor these furnished rooms, often rented clandestinely. New measures will now be taken to comply with safety standards. Owners will also be required to reveal the identity of their tenants.
