Galatasaray Terminates Moroccan Star Belhanda’s Contract After Pitch Criticism

Moroccan international Younès Belhanda will no longer wear the Galatasaray jersey. The Istanbul club announced in a statement on Wednesday that the player’s contract had been "unilaterally terminated". The Moroccan international is accused of not only "damaging" the club, but also of making "insulting remarks".
The Moroccan player is paying dearly for his recent criticism of the club and its management after a match against Sivasspor last Sunday. In the anger of the draw, Younès Belhanda had let his frustration explode on the microphone of a television channel against the state of the stadium pitch. "The management must find a solution. Even the pitch of our training camp is in better condition. Instead of being obsessed with Twitter and Instagram, or being interested in the media, take care of the pitch".
Faced with these remarks of a certain tenor, the management did not hesitate before dismissing the player. "The contract of the professional footballer Younès Belhanda has been unilaterally terminated. He is fired for damaging the image of the club and the reputation of the members of the board of directors, and for repeated violations of the regulations," the club announced on social media, as Belhanda’s contract was due to expire in June.
At the age of 31, Younès Belhanda had started his professional career at Montpellier between 2009 and 2013, before signing with Dynamo Kiev for five years. He joined Galatasaray in 2017 for an amount of 9.5 million euros. In 131 matches, he scored 22 goals and provided 26 assists. He should undoubtedly bounce back soon in the French championship where he is still highly appreciated.
