Galatasaray Star Omar Elabdellaoui Suffers Serious Eye Injury from New Year’s Firework Accident

The Norwegian international of Moroccan origin Omar Elabdellaoui, who plays for Galatasaray, was seriously injured in the face and eyes by a firework during New Year’s celebrations. The announcement of the bad news was made on Friday by the player’s doctor and his club.
The player of Moroccan origin had just recovered from the coronavirus, and now he has to face eye injuries. The wounds have been cleaned, but a new intervention is not excluded, said Friday Professor Vedat Kaya of the Liv hospital where the player is receiving treatment.
Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim and captain Arda Turan visited Omar on Thursday evening. Even though the latter has not lost his sight, the doctor says he has serious injuries to one eye, which took the brunt of the impact. The specialist thinks it is too early to say whether this accident will have consequences for the player’s career.
It is a blow for Omar, who must be torn apart on his hospital bed. But he is strongly supported in this ordeal by his loved ones. Galatasaray president Mustafa Cengiz also visited him on Friday. He told the press that the player’s morale is good, but that he "took a hit." "His condition is improving, we must keep hope. I think we will have to wait one or two weeks" to see more clearly about his condition, he added.
The incident has not left anyone indifferent. Many have written on social media, expressing their attachment to Omar in these difficult times. Even Fenerbahçe and Besiktas, sworn enemies of the club, have shown compassion. At 29 years old, Omar Elabdellaoui is in his first season at Galatasaray.
