Funeral in Morocco for 14-Year-Old Girl Killed in Spain Draws Hundreds

Khaoula Elhaiba, the 14-year-old Moroccan girl killed in Alcala La Real (Jaen) on February 15, was buried on Saturday in Beni Ayat, Morocco. Hundreds of people attended the funeral.
Eleven days after her death in Spain, Khaoula was buried. The teenager’s body was repatriated on Friday to Morocco from the port of Algeciras, after the Muslim prayer organized on Tuesday in her memory at the Great Mosque of Jaen. Once arrived at the port of Tangier on Friday, it was necessary to travel 480 kilometers by road to reach Beni Ayat where the minor was to be buried.
With customs formalities and numerous administrative procedures, Khaoula’s body arrived at its destination in the early hours of Saturday, reports Andalucia Informacion. Around noon, the funeral procession headed towards the cemetery, located four kilometers from the family home in Beni Ayat, where the young woman was buried.
The inhabitants of the city, deeply touched by the sudden and tragic death of Khaoula, showed their solidarity with her family. Some 2,000 people welcomed the young woman’s body on its arrival on Friday and about 400 people, including city authorities, were present at her funeral, according to sources close to the family.
The inhabitants of Beni Ayat also took the opportunity to denounce this crime and demand justice for the death of the teenager. "We have full confidence in the Spanish laws, in a democratic state that respects human rights... Khaoula was an innocent girl who was unlucky, but her death has served to unite two peoples and has moved two continents. She is worth fighting for to the end," said Rafik Es Soufi, Hakima’s first cousin, Khaoula’s mother.
