French Tourist Dies from Heat Exhaustion During Moroccan Desert Motorcycle Trip

A French tourist in his sixties lost his life while leading a motorcycle expedition in the desert of M’Hamid El Ghizlane, in the province of Zagora.
Along with two other compatriots of the same age, the victim was on an excursion in this desert area when he felt a sudden fatigue, which forced him to request a break. The sexagenarian then lay down on the ground to rest, but never got up again, reports Hespress. He succumbed on the spot, likely due to the intense heat, combined with his fatigue.
Destabilized, his two companions got lost in the desert. One of them, who went to seek help, was late in returning. The other, worried, set out to search for him. One of the two French tourists eventually crossed paths with other tourists and narrated the events to them, which allowed for alerting the local authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie of Zagora.
After several hours of searching, the rescue teams managed to locate the second lost tourist, in a state of extreme fatigue. Both tourists were transported to the provincial hospital to receive necessary care. As for the deceased tourist, his body was transferred to the morgue. The competent prosecutor’s office may request an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
