French Teacher Sparks Outrage in Morocco Over Controversial Map Lesson

At the Paul Valéry high school in Meknes, a serious incident occurred when a history and geography teacher presented a truncated map of Morocco, excluding its Saharan provinces, to his students, causing a wave of outrage among them.
The parents of the students quickly reacted and demanded explanations from the school administration, while the Civil Alliance for Human Rights (ACDH) denounced the anti-pedagogical behavior of the teacher, which undermines the territorial integrity of Morocco.

In a letter of apology addressed to the parents, the teacher acknowledged having had difficulty managing the situation and having lost his temper. He also stated that he had never questioned the Moroccan character of the Sahara and had never contested the territorial integrity of Morocco.
However, some parents reported inappropriate behavior from the teacher, such as remarks that undermine the territorial integrity of the country, recorded by students on their mobile phones. According to these parents, the teacher would have harassed the students to force them to delete the videos, while making threats and insults.
Faced with these events, an NGO called for the teacher’s departure, while the parents of students are considering the consequences to be given to this incident, which could, it is said, impact the trust they place in the establishment.
