French National Exposes Alleged Corruption Ring in Moroccan Coastal City

A case similar to that of the allegedly corrupt judges in Casablanca has erupted in Essaouira. A young lawyer, a businesswoman and a woman executive in the pachalik are facing justice for having played an intermediary role in the legal case of a French national.
Another scandal of intermediation. In Essaouira, a French national who claims to be the victim of a scam orchestrated by a young lawyer, a businesswoman and a woman executive in the pachalik "has denounced a network of intermediation in the court of first instance," reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar. The audio recordings he is said to have provided to the investigators and his statements have allowed them to arrest a woman, owner of a famous café in the city center. She was responsible for negotiating with the victim to intervene in his favor in a land dispute.
During his hearing, he provided information to the investigators, which was very useful. The pachalik executive who disappeared from circulation after providing a medical certificate and the lawyer in charge of negotiating the resolution of the victim’s case with senior officials of the Essaouira court of first instance were in turn arrested.
After his arrest, the lawyer was placed in pre-trial detention. He will be released on bail (10,000 DH). But the legal proceedings continue after the scandal.
