French Muslim Council’s Ramadan Alms Increase Sparks Debate

In France, the reevaluation of zakat al-fitr, the legal alms payable before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, by the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) chaired by Franco-Moroccan Mohammed Moussaoui and other Muslim organizations, is not well received.
Zakat al-fitr goes from 7 euros to 9 euros this year. In a statement published in January, the Muslim Theological Council of France (CTMF) announced that zakat al-fitr is set at 9 euros per person.
