French Muslim Council Sets Zakat al-Fitr at 9 Euros for 2025

The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) has set the reference amount for Zakat al-Fitr for the year 2025 at 9 euros per person. This mandatory alms must be paid before the end of the month of Ramadan.
This amount of 9 euros is a base, but variations can exist according to religious interpretations. The CFCM specifies that the amount can range between 7 and 12 euros. It is therefore recommended that the faithful approach the religious authority they usually follow to know the exact amount to be paid.
Zakat al-Fitr is intended for people in need, regardless of their religious affiliation. Priority is given to the destitute residing near the donor, but the alms can be sent elsewhere if necessary.
Although traditionally paid at the end of Ramadan, Zakat al-Fitr can be paid from the beginning of the month.
For people who cannot fast due to chronic health problems or advanced age, a compensatory alms, the Fidya, is provided. Its amount, for each day not fasted, varies according to legal opinions, ranging from 2 to 12 euros. The CFCM encourages everyone to follow the opinion that best suits their situation.
The CFCM also stresses that Zakat al-Fitr and Fidya are exclusively intended for people in poverty. These funds cannot in any case be used to finance mosques. Mosques that collect these funds must clearly inform donors and separate the different funds in order to ensure transparency. The CFCM states: "Zakat El Fitr and Fidya are exclusively intended for the poor and cannot be used to finance mosques."
