French Muslim Council Announces Eid al-Fitr Date for 2023

Ramadan is coming to an end. The Muslim Theological Council of France (CTMF) has just announced the date of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the feast that marks the end of fasting.

The French now know the date of Eid al-Fitr. "Given the most accurate scientific data, with regard to the month of Shawwal, the conjunction (new moon) will take place on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 04:13 GMT (05:13: Paris time). The necessary conditions for the visual observation of the new crescent of Shawwal in the world will be met, God willing, on the same day, Thursday, April 20, from 7:19 PM GMT (8:19 PM: Paris time)," the Muslim Theological Council of France (CTMF) said in a statement. Consequently, "the first day of Shawwal (Eid al-Fitr)" will be "Friday, April 21, 2023."

In France, the holy month had started on Thursday, March 23.
