French Drug Trafficking Suspect Arrested at Casablanca Airport, Faces Extradition

A French fugitive, suspected of being involved in a drug trafficking case, was arrested at Casablanca airport. Subject to an international arrest warrant issued by Benin, he was presented to the public prosecutor’s office pending his extradition.
The 65-year-old individual had escaped a large-scale crackdown in Benin last May, as he was suspected of being involved in a case of seizure by the security authorities of 145 kilograms of cocaine in a container from a port in Latin America. But he could not evade the security system of Morocco.
The suspect was placed in custody on the orders of the competent public prosecutor’s office, as part of the procedures required by the extradition procedure in accordance with national legislation and the relevant international conventions, the note concludes.
