France Student Visa: €10,530 Financial Requirement for Moroccans

Until now, the minimum amount required was set at €615 per month. It is therefore increasing by €262.50 per month, or an additional €3,150 over a full year.

For twelve months, students will therefore have to prove they have €10,530, compared with €7,380 previously. This amount does not necessarily have to be paid in one lump sum, but applicants must provide evidence showing that they will actually have access to these resources during their stay.

A harder-to-finance application

The new rule notably concerns long-stay visa applications for study purposes. It also applies to students already in France when they apply to renew their residence permit.

Resources may come from a scholarship, employment, family support or personal funds. When a relative supports the student from Morocco or France, proof of identity, income and regular transfers may be requested.

An application that does not meet this financial requirement risks having the student visa or residence permit refused, even when the candidate has a university enrollment or pre-enrollment.

The amount of €877.50 currently corresponds to 47% of the gross monthly minimum wage (Smic). Unlike the former threshold of €615, which remained unchanged for more than twenty years, it may now change in line with the Smic and inflation.

The decree published in the Official Journal comes into force this Saturday, August 1, 2026.
