Former Norwegian Soccer Star Mounir Hamoud Dies at 39 on First Day as Coach

Mounir Hamoud, former Norwegian star of Moroccan origin, dies of a heart attack on the first day of his new job as a coach. He was 39 years old.

Mounir Hamoud becomes the most ephemeral coach of Stromgodset. The Norwegian player of Moroccan origin died of a heart attack on Monday, the day he took up his new position, reports The Sun. In a statement, the Norwegians paid a glowing tribute to their former star. "This is a brutal and shocking message to receive - it affects us all at Stromsgodset, it affects Drammen and the entire football family. Our thoughts go first and foremost to Mounir’s family and loved ones in a very difficult situation. They have lost a father, a husband, a brother, a son and a dear family member," writes the Norwegian club, recalling that Mounir had worked as a circuit director for player development at NFF Buskerud over the past four years.

He was supposed to have his very first day of work on Monday as the new high-level player developer at Stromsgodset, but the Grim Reaper took him away. Stromgodset says it has "lost a truly unique human being." "He was friendly, generous, inclusive and positive. He was professionally competent and inspiring, someone who cared and participated. Someone we were all looking forward to meeting, someone for whom we only have good and warm feelings," the Norwegian club added. And to continue: "Mounir has above all left deep traces wherever he has traveled. As a player and teammate, as a coach, player developer and professional. As a colleague and human being. Stromsgodset is in mourning. Mounir Hamoud will be greatly missed."

Born on February 1, 1985 in Nador (Morocco), Mounir Hamoud was a Norwegian footballer of Moroccan origin who played as a defender. With the Strømsgodset club, he participated in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and the Europa League. He helped the club win the Norwegian league title in 2013.
