FFF Pursues Monaco's Ben Seghir Despite Morocco National Team Debut

While Eliesse Ben Seghir, the jewel of AS Monaco, has already chosen Morocco as his sports nationality, the French Football Federation (FFF) is trying to make him change his mind. The 19-year-old midfielder has participated in the two friendly matches of the Atlas Lions against Angola (1-0) and Mauritania (0-0).

The French Football Federation (FFF) is not letting go of Eliesse Ben Seghir who has preferred Morocco to France. It "is multiplying contacts to try to make him change his mind," believes Foot Mercato. But the French football body must act quickly if it really wants to have the 19-year-old midfielder in the France team. Summoned by Walid Regragui, coach of the Moroccan national team, he played the two friendly matches of the Atlas Lions’ international break against Angola (1-0) on March 22 and Mauritania on March 26 (0-0) at the Grand Stadium in Agadir. After these two matches, Morocco will face Zambia and Congo in June as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. If the AS Monaco jewel plays one of these two matches, France will lose him definitively.

The native of Saint-Tropez, who already has several selections in the French U17, U18 and U19 teams, has finally chosen to play for his country of origin, Morocco. A choice he is proud of. "I am very proud of it. I made this choice because of my roots. Both my parents are Moroccan. And the roots prevailed. The FFF tried to keep me, but I assume this choice and I’m going for it. Why wait when you know what you want?" he confided to the press.
