Monaco Starlet Eliesse Ben Seghir Chooses Morocco Over France for International Career

It’s official, Eliesse Ben Seghir, the jewel of AS Monaco, has decided to wear the jersey of the Atlas Lions. A well-thought-out choice by the 19-year-old player, who long hesitated between France, the country of his birth, and Morocco, the country of his parents.
"I have the chance to play for two great football nations. It was a complicated choice, but a well-thought-out one. I made this decision about a month ago," Ben Seghir said in a press conference.
If the call of Morocco was the strongest, it is above all thanks to his roots that Ben Seghir leaned in favor of the Atlas Lions. "My two parents are Moroccan. And the roots prevailed," he said. An attachment reinforced by a stay in Marrakech this summer, where he was able to measure the enthusiasm of the Moroccan people for their national team.
Ambition also played an important role in his decision. Ben Seghir was seduced by the project presented to him by the Moroccan coach, Walid Regragui. "Walid Regragui showed me a very good project and showed me the love he had for me and the country’s desire to have me," revealed the young player.
The French Football Federation (FFF) tried to dissuade him from joining Morocco, but Ben Seghir had already made his decision. "The FFF tried to keep me, but I assume this choice and I’m going for it. Why wait when you know what you want?" he affirmed.
