Fez Mayor Under Fire for Controversial Parking Contract Award

The mayor of Fez, Driss El Azami El Idrissi, is at the heart of a scandal. He is accused of violating the rules in force in the award of a parking lot contract.
This parking management contract for the city was awarded in 2018 to an Italian company. According to Al Akhbar, this decision was not unanimously approved and the mayor was the subject of strong criticism during the last ordinary session of the city council. Among the grievances against the municipal elected official, there is the non-validation of the specifications of the contract by the Ministry of the Interior, after its adoption during a session in February 2018.
Another accusation against the mayor is the use of the negotiated procedure, which took place without the special authorization of the competent body, thus undermining the principle of competition between the various bidders.
He is also accused of modifying certain commitments in the specifications imposed on the future manager without the knowledge of the city council, such as the obligation to develop new parking spaces. Worse, the current mayor would not have recovered the parking revenues of the last two years contrary to the regulations in force.
Following these numerous accusations, the Regional Audit Court and the General Inspectorate of the Interior have been seized to denounce these illegal acts of Mayor Driss El Azami El Idrissi.
