Casablanca Considers Outsourcing Death Management Services

The mayor of Casablanca, Abdelaziz El Omari, wants to delegate the management of deaths in the metropolis. This project will be discussed at the next session of the Municipal Council.

The new project consists of delegating the administrative management of deaths to the Casa prestations development company. This implies the procedures for declaring and certifying deaths as well as the issuance of the relevant documents.

Even if these purely administrative tasks are only the prerogatives of the commune presidents, and that the regulations prohibit development companies from managing this type of activity, this does not seem to deter the mayor and his team. The draft agreement was presented to the members of the Equipment and Heritage Commission within the City Council before being presented for a vote at the next session, scheduled for next week, reports Assabah.

This project will cost the city hall nearly 15 million dirhams over the next three years. The concrete mission entrusted to the company authorizes it to supervise the funeral police, and also the contracting with the operating physicians on behalf of the city hall, to certify deaths and issue certificates.

The task will not be easy for the mayor who must convince his members, especially in the face of the opposition that the project has already encountered since its passage in the commission, even if the city hall lacks qualified human resources for this mission. Several people are already denouncing the mayor’s project which, for them, opts for a makeshift solution to solve a structural problem, specifies the newspaper.
