Father and Friends Face Trial for Vigilante Attack on Teen Assault Suspect

The trial of a father and his three friends will open before the criminal court in early 2023. They are suspected of having beaten up a 16-year-old teenager, accused of having sexually assaulted his 6-year-old daughter in Roanne.

Pending the opening of their trial, the public prosecutor’s office has requested the placement under judicial supervision of this father of a 6-year-old child and his three friends. After their arrest and placement in police custody, they will first have to be presented to the Roanne public prosecutor’s office, then to a liberty and detention judge (JLD), reports franceinfo.

The events took place on the night of Thursday to Friday, October 21. The mother of the 6-year-old girl finds herself face to face with a young man coming out of her child’s room. She suspects him of having subjected her to touching. The next day, the father and his three friends cross the path of the suspect at night, beat him with "kicks", "punches" and whip him "with an electrical cable as he lay on the ground", before calling the police. The teenager "had a lacerated body. The doctors gave him 10 days of ITT," said the Roanne public prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini. He filed a complaint against his alleged attackers.

The beating of the teenager caused outrage. "In a civilization, there is no place for private revenge," declared Cécile Mamelin, the vice-president of the Union syndicale des magistrats (USM). "The rule of law [had to] prevail," also estimated government spokesman Olivier Véran during the report of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.
