Fan Arrested for Displaying Palestinian Flag at CAF Champions League Match in Cairo

A football fan was arrested for waving the Palestinian flag during the match between Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals. His nationality is unknown.
Despite the normalization of relations between Israel and Egypt in 1979, and Tel Aviv and Rabat in 2020, Egyptians and Moroccans have continued to defend the Palestinian cause, including the ultras of the two football clubs, Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca. A supporter paid the price for this last Saturday. "The Egyptian security forces arrested a young man for waving the Palestinian flag during the match between Al-Ahly and the Moroccan Raja at the Cairo International Stadium," said The New Arab, the Egyptian human rights network.
This is not the first time a supporter has been arrested for waving a Palestinian flag. Egyptians have already been arrested for waving the Palestinian flag in public places, and a football fan was dragged out of a Cairo stadium during a match in 2019, the network said.
