Moroccan Fan Faces Legal Action for Displaying Palestinian Flag During Soccer Match

The public prosecutor’s office of the court of first instance in Berkane has decided to prosecute at liberty a supporter who entered the field with a Palestinian flag on Sunday, during the first leg of the Confederation Cup final, opposing the Renaissance Sportive de Berkane to Zamalek.
The defendant is being prosecuted for "entering the playing field without legitimate reason during a football match," under Article 308-11 of the Penal Code, which prohibits any entry "by force or deception into a stadium, a sports hall or any place where a match or a sports event is taking place." His trial is scheduled for May 30.
The supporter risks a fine of 1,200 to 5,000 dirhams for having carried a Palestinian flag and invaded the pitch in the final minutes of the match between Renaissance de Berkane and Zamalek, counting for the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final. The two teams will play the return leg next Sunday.
