Family Arrested for Staging Child Kidnapping and Ransom Scheme in Morocco

The Bir Jdid Police Brigade succeeded in arresting 2 women and 1 man from the same family for their alleged involvement in a case of kidnapping, extortion and launching an alert for a supposed hostage-taking.
According to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), a false alert was received by the police, reporting the kidnapping of a child in the Bir Jdid region.
The kidnappers were demanding a ransom of 60,000 dirhams from the father in exchange for his release.
The initial elements of the investigation revealed the identity of the kidnappers, who turned out to be relatives of the alleged victim.
The DGSN subsequently managed to unravel the scheme that had been devised by the mother of the little girl, her brother and a relative of the family.
The accused invented this staging in order to blackmail the father and extort the ransom amount. They were taken into custody, pending the investigation conducted under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
