Moroccan Police Arrest Three in Million-Dirham Kidnapping Plot in Meknes

Three individuals involved in a case of kidnapping, sequestration and ransom demand fell into the hands of the elements of the Prefectural Service of the Judicial Police of Meknes, on the evening of Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
It all started with a report of a person’s disappearance under suspicious circumstances. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), in a press release, specifies that the person who filed the complaint had called the victim by telephone, but another, unknown person had answered, claiming to have sequestered the man in question due to a financial transaction that had taken place between them. The caller was demanding a ransom of one million dirhams for his release.
The elements of the Prefectural Service of the Judicial Police of Meknes, in coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), did not take long to discover the horror. Indeed, according to the MAP which reports this case, their investigations led them to locate the victim who was found injured in the head and chained, in a farm located in a rural area about 15 km from the city of Sefrou.
For the moment, three individuals have been arrested, as well as in Fez, for their alleged involvement in this case, the same source adds, stating that they have been taken into custody for the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office.
Furthermore, according to the first elements of the investigation, these criminal acts were probably motivated by a dispute between the victim and the defendants over an amount of money in connection with allegations concerning the extraction of a treasure.
