Nine Arrested in Rabat for Alleged Kidnapping and Ransom Plot

The Prefectural Service of the Judicial Police of Rabat arrested nine Sub-Saharan Africans on Friday, September 6. They would be involved in a case of kidnapping, sequestration and ransom demand.

The Sub-Saharans were arrested based on precise information provided by the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST). In total, nine of them, including two women and a minor daughter, for their alleged involvement in a case of kidnapping and sequestration accompanied by violence, with a ransom demand, as well as for illegal stay, were arrested.

According to the Rabat Police Headquarters services, it all started with a notice received about an African national who had been kidnapped and sequestered before a ransom was demanded from his family living in his country of origin, in exchange for his release.

This is how an investigation was opened to verify these criminal acts. Finally, the national security services located the place of sequestration in Al Karia in the suburbs of Salé. The victim was released and the suspects were arrested in flagrante delicto of possession of a set of suspicious identity documents. In addition, mobile phones and sums of money were seized, according to a DGSN press release.

The same source specifies that the suspects were subjected to a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to elucidate all the conditions and circumstances of this case. Furthermore, the investigations are continuing to arrest any other individuals who may be involved in these criminal acts, the police notes.
