Fake Doctors Scam Patients at Marrakech Hospital, Multiple Arrests Made

At the Ibn Tofail hospital in Marrakech, individuals, under the cover of the respectable garb of the fake doctor, defrauded families of patients. Caught in the act, some of them answered for their actions before the courts.

The practice is as old as the world. On Wednesday, a Cameroonian immigrant was arrested in flagrante delicto of usurpation of the function of doctor in the emergency department of the Ibn Tofail hospital in Marrakech, reports Assabah. A repeat offender, he was sentenced to a prison term. Before the Cameroonian national, a woman had posed as a nurse to defraud patients. She was denounced and then imprisoned.

Another case, that of a fake benefactor dressed in Afghan clothes. He promised a family to facilitate a surgical operation without being on the waiting list, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. To convince them, he denounces an alleged corruption of the doctors and nurses of the hospital. According to the scammer, the practice of the latter was contrary to the principles of Islam. He managed to persuade the family who gave him 2,000 DH.

But things will not go as planned. The family members realized the deception when the hospital authorities explained to them that registration on a waiting list is mandatory before any surgical operation. They denounced the fake benefactor who tried to flee but was slowed down by the security guards. They handed him over to the police officers on duty in front of the Mohammed VI University Hospital, who in turn took him to the police station.
