Moroccan Man Loses Sight After Surgery by Fake Doctor in Rabat Hospital

Monday 19 September 2022, by Prince

A man has just lost his sight in a Rabat hospital after being operated on by a fake doctor. Three people have already been arrested in this case.

A new scandal has just rocked a hospital in Rabat where a man lost his sight after being operated on by a fake doctor, reports the daily Al Akhbar. The man, around 40 years old, was having trouble getting an appointment for an urgent eye surgery. That’s when one of the hospital’s security guards offered to put him in touch with a surgeon doctor to perform the operation without an appointment.

The guard was very persuasive, reassuring the man that the doctor in question, who is a friend, is on duty in the emergency department and could operate on him in the next few days. Two days later, the patient received a call asking him to come to the hospital for his operation. Once there, the security guard and one of his colleagues extorted money from him, saying they were paying medical fees related to the operation.

The fake doctor was actually a retired nurse who was also paid for this service. After the operation, he gave the patient an unsealed prescription and scheduled a follow-up appointment in a month and a half. But the quadragenarian did not wait that long before realizing that he had been the victim of a "medical error," as he had lost his sight. He contacted the security guard and threatened to file a complaint.

The latter and his accomplices then made an appointment for him with a "real" doctor who confirmed the patient’s blindness. That’s when he discovered that he had been the victim of a scam. The two security guards and the fake doctor were arrested. The hospital management has opened an internal investigation to identify the dysfunctions that allowed this tragedy to occur within the establishment.
