Emergency Roadside Birth: Moroccan Couple Forced to Deliver Baby After Hospital Turns Them Away
For lack of a doctor in a hospital in Marrakech, a man was forced to have his wife give birth in his car by the side of the road.
The facts date back to Tuesday, November 9 and took place in Youssoufia in the Marrakech region, reports Al Massae. In a video that went viral on social media, the man explained that he rushed his wife, who was about to give birth, to the Lalla Hasnaa hospital in Yousoufia.
Once there, the nurse on duty told him that no obstetrician was on site. The three doctors normally on duty, being on long-term sick leave, have not been replaced. And the hospital administration prefers, instead of finding an emergency solution, to direct all women about to give birth to the Mohammed VI hospital in Marrakech.
Rushed in the direction of the indicated establishment, about 1h30 away, the couple will not have had time to reach their destination. "Very quickly things become urgent, and by force of circumstances, the husband helps his wife give birth in their car himself," the newspaper points out.
The case has sparked a wave of outrage on social media. Several Internet users have reported numerous dysfunctions in this health facility. In addition to a shortage of medical and paramedical staff, emergency doctors and a breakdown of practically all scanners, cases similar to this father would be recurrent.
