Egypt Beats Morocco 2-1 in AFCON Quarter-Final, Promised Reward by Sports Minister

Ashraf Sobhi, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, had promised a reward to the national team in the event of victory against Morocco. The Pharaohs rose to the challenge by beating the Atlas Lions (2-1). They thus join the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021).
The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports made a promise to the Pharaohs for this high-stakes quarter-final between Egypt and Morocco. In a statement to ONTime Sport TV, Mohamed Fawzi, spokesman for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said that Ashraf Sobhi’s department had promised the players that they would receive a reward if they beat Morocco in the quarter-finals.
"Ashraf Sobhi promised the players to pay the reward immediately after the match, if they managed to beat Morocco. The Sports Minister’s decision came with the aim of supporting the players and motivating them, given the difficulty of the match," he concluded. This motivation bore fruit.
After a tense match, Egypt won their duel against Morocco after extra time (2-1) at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The Pharaohs thus join Cameroon in the semi-finals of AFCON-2022.
