Morocco’s Captain Saïss Expresses Disappointment After AFCON Quarter-Final Exit to Egypt

Disappointment and disillusionment in the ranks of the Atlas Lions after their defeat (2-1) against the Pharaohs of Egypt. The captain of the Moroccan national team, Romain Saïss, is having a hard time digesting this elimination, which according to him, could have been avoided.
While the Moroccan players had started the match with the best odds in their favor, they fell before a strong, committed Egyptian team that remained dangerous until extra time. Morocco is therefore leaving this 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN-Cameroon 2021) in the quarter-finals.
"We are disappointed. We were aiming to go as far as possible in this competition but unfortunately we were beaten by Egypt," said Romain Saïss in a post-match statement. "We gave it our all. We were the first to score. But unfortunately we were unable to preserve our lead," he added.
On the eve of this quarter-final between Morocco and Egypt, Youssef Hadji, a former Atlas Lion, had indicated that this match was "a tight clash between the two teams" and that only the team that shows "realism, tactical diligence and offensive efficiency" will reach the semi-finals.
