Earthquake in Morocco: King Mohammed VI mobilizes the army

Following the devastating earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) were deployed "urgently on the night of September 9, 2023" according to the "High Instructions of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces".
In a statement, the General Staff of the FAR said that "significant human and logistical resources, air and ground," have been mobilized, including Search and Rescue teams and a Field Medical-Surgical Hospital (HMCC).
As part of this operation, close coordination has been established between the General Staff of the FAR and the local authorities. The "necessary arrangements have been made" to ensure a smooth and efficient liaison with the aim of best managing this humanitarian crisis, the statement said.
On the ground, the deployment of forces is massive: "intervention detachments, aircraft, helicopters, drones and engineering resources" are in action. "Logistics hubs" have also been set up to provide "the necessary support to the various departments concerned and the affected populations," says an official source.
