UN Praises Morocco’s Swift Response to Deadly Al Haouz Earthquake

The UN has hailed Morocco’s mobilization efforts to provide a rapid and effective response to the earthquake that hit the Al Haouz province last week.
Through the voice of its Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, the UN congratulated Morocco on its humanitarian response capabilities following the deadly earthquake of Friday, September 8.
Morocco has been able to mobilize "enormous" resources to respond to the earthquake, rescue survivors from the rubble, provide medical care and distribute essential aid, said Martin Griffiths, in a statement to the press in Geneva.
The UN official also highlighted "the incredible generosity of local associations and volunteers from across the country", without failing to reaffirm the United Nations’ commitment "to support Morocco’s immediate and long-term national efforts, particularly in terms of coordination".
Morocco has deployed significant resources to deliver food to the affected populations, by air and land, from the first hours following the violent earthquake. Local authorities, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the Moroccan Red Crescent, etc. have been mobilized to intervene in the affected villages and douars.
