Their trial is expected to open before the Montauban criminal court this Tuesday.
On Thursday evening, a routine intervention for nighttime disturbance in a building turned into a confrontation. Alerted by residents, officers from the police station arrived at Boulevard Gustave – Garrisson in Montauban. They attempted to calm down a heavily intoxicated 27-year-old woman causing disorder. The officers tried to conduct a search, but the woman in her forties hurled insults at them, throwing kicks aimed at their groins, reports La Dépêche.
In the process, a 40-year-old man, born in Valence (Drôme) with a criminal record for repeat offenses, came to the rescue of the 27-year-old woman. However, he made the poor decision to grab a female officer by the arm, violently struggle, and kick a police officer. As a result: eight police officers were injured during the intervention. Some had to be admitted to the hospital for further examinations.

Following the prosecutor’s recommendations, the liberty and custody judge ordered their immediate placement in pre-trial detention. The two accused will be tried on Tuesday, April 15 in an immediate appearance before the Montauban criminal court. The eight injured police officers have filed as civil parties.
