Montauban: A Moroccan man kept in detention after violence against his ex-wife

Abdessamad El B., a 42-year-old Moroccan national, appeared on Tuesday before the Montauban judicial court. Prosecuted for acts of violence that occurred on December 3 in Grisolles, the defendant was granted a delay by right to prepare his defense, but the judges ordered his strict detention in pre-trial detention due to the seriousness of the accusations, reports La Dépêche.

The file reports a violent scene during which the man would have tried to strangle the mother of the family in front of their four children, aged 12 to 17. The lawyer for the civil party, Me Imane Krimi, stressed that one of the children had to physically intervene, armed with a knife, to force his father to let go. The deputy prosecutor described a worrying profile of a "domestic tyrant", recalling that the defendant already has eight convictions and had reinstalled himself in the marital home after a previous incarceration.

Faced with the judges, the man tried to minimize his responsibility, citing financial tensions and regretting having missed a vocational training course due to his police custody. These arguments were dismissed by the court, which prioritized the protection of the victims and the risk of repetition to justify his incarceration until the trial hearing.
