Antisemitism: eight months in prison for a Moroccan in Béziers

The incident occurred last July. A 66-year-old man was going to the synagogue accompanied by his wife, his daughter, his grandchildren, and the rabbi who was to officiate the service. The group was accosted by the occupants of a vehicle approaching them. Anti-Semitic insults were hurled from the vehicle before it drove off. The victims had the reflex to note the license plate number, allowing investigators to identify the driver.

Banned from appearing near Jewish places of worship

The defendant, a 25-year-old Moroccan national with a previously clean criminal record, appeared in court on November 25 after being held in custody, where he only admitted to part of the remarks. In addition to the prison sentence, the four-month suspended probation sentence is accompanied by restrictive measures. He is prohibited from contacting the plaintiffs or appearing near Jewish places of worship for two years. He will also have to compensate the victims.
