Drug-Smuggling Plane Crash: Trial Begins for Six Suspects in Morocco

The trial of the six people, including a Spanish national, arrested following the crash of a light aircraft carrying drugs to Spain opened before the Court of First Instance in Tangier on Friday.
Six individuals must answer for their actions before the Moroccan justice system. Among them, Ignacio, a young Spanish-student pilot in his third year at World aviation - who was transporting drugs to Spain. The plane had taken off near a residential area on the road connecting Sebt Zinnatt and Dar Chaoui near Tangier, but crashed after hitting a garbage truck. The pilot told investigators that he was unaware of where he was going, reports Al Oâmk Al Maghribi. He thus claimed to have inadvertently violated Moroccan airspace.
Ignacio also revealed that it was a friend who had asked him to go to Ceuta to transport a drug shipment in exchange for 50,000 euros without telling him that the plane would land in Morocco. He claims to be a victim and accuses the network of traffickers behind the shipment of this cargo of having forced him to work with them. The young pilot is being prosecuted for illegal possession, transport and drug trafficking and illegal entry into Moroccan territory.
A garbage truck driver, his companion, an employee of a household waste collection company, as well as an employee of a cooperative in the rural commune of Sabt Zeinat, are also in the dock. The first three are accused of assisting and aiding the pilot in a smuggling case. As for the cooperative employee, he is accused of having stolen a cannabis package near the location of the plane. He had hidden the package on the farm of the cooperative. He is being prosecuted for theft and drug possession.
To recall, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie arrested at the end of December in a luxury residential complex in Tangier another alleged drug trafficker as part of the investigation opened following the seizure of 12 tons of drugs and the crash of the plane.
