Driving licenses in Spain: Moroccans caught using spy glasses worth €2,500

The Spanish Civil Guard has intercepted driving license candidates using smart glasses to cheat. Among the fraudsters are Moroccan nationals who paid up to €2,500 to obtain the answers via a sophisticated system.

The Civil Guard and the road authorities in La Rioja have, for the first time, intercepted a candidate using smart glasses during the theoretical driving license exam. This device allowed them to film the screen naturally and send the images in real time to an outside accomplice. According to the EFE agency, the latter then dictated the correct answers via a tiny invisible earpiece, marking a new stage in technological fraud.

Since last January, inspections carried out in Logroño and Calahorra have identified twenty people involved in this type of cheating. The profiles of the fraudsters are varied, with ages ranging from 24 to 59 and diverse nationalities, including Moroccans, Chinese and Senegalese. These candidates would have spent between €1,300 and €2,500 to benefit from this illegal external assistance.

The authorities denounce an increasing professionalization of the networks providing this high-tech equipment, going beyond the classic use of hidden phones. In application of the road safety law, the offenders were fined €500 and banned from taking the exam for six months. All the files concerned were immediately declared "unfit" by the authorities.
