Forged driving licenses for Moroccans

Two individuals are accused of having forged driving licenses for some 90 Moroccan nationals in Ceuta. They risk two to three years in prison.

The facts date back to 2016-2017. The accused were arrested for their involvement in a network of driving license forgery, following an investigation by the National Police. The investigations led to the arrest of a traffic agent, already deceased, as well as two employees of an agency responsible for facilitating the procedures for exchanging Moroccan driving licenses. The Ceuta prosecutor’s office has requested two years and 3 months in prison against each of the 90 defendants and a fine of 50 euros per day for 9 months. It also demanded the withdrawal of the illegally obtained licenses, reports El Faro de Ceuta.

The two agency employees, accused of a crime of forgery of an official document, face a sentence of 3 years in prison and a fine of 50 euros per day for 12 months. They offered to exchange Moroccan B and A driving licenses to their holders who did not meet the required conditions. According to the provisions of the agreement on the mutual recognition of driving licenses between Morocco and Spain, the applicant must legally reside in Spain and prove that he resided in Morocco at the date of obtaining the Moroccan driving license.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the two agents received between 300 and 3,000 euros to exchange Moroccan driving licenses to their holders, knowing that the latter did not meet these conditions. The searches carried out in the offices and homes of the accused on September 17, 2017, led to the seizure of a large sum of money in euros and dirhams, as well as incriminating documents (residence permits, Moroccan driving licenses and identity cards, payment receipts, photos, medical certificates, etc.).
