US Donates $10 Million in Military Vehicles to Morocco Following Joint Exercises

The United States has donated 500 military vehicles, worth more than $10 million, to Morocco. The operation took place at the end of African Lion, the military maneuvers co-organized by the two countries, which ended on June 16 in Agadir.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives has already approved this donation, which is part of the Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program, which provides for the transfer of defense equipment to partner countries or international organizations.

The proposed equipment generally aims to modernize the partner armed forces, says La Razon. The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) had benefited from this program in October 2021 and had received at the time a batch of military equipment (weapons and transport vehicles) worth $10 million.

"Morocco and the United States are linked by a strategic military partnership, the subject of a 2020-2030 defense cooperation roadmap. The highlight of this cooperation is the organization in Morocco of African Lion, the largest military exercise of the US army on the African continent," it is recalled.

This year, the maneuvers took place from June 2 to 16 in seven regions of Morocco (Agadir, Tan-Tan, Mehbes, Tiznit, Kenitra, Benguerir and Tifnit). Their objective is to strengthen Moroccan-American military cooperation as well as the cooperation between the armed forces of the participating countries in order to "promote security and stability in the region".
