Disgraced BFMTV Anchor Resurfaces on Moroccan Network Amid Corruption Scandal

Disappeared from the radar since his dismissal from BFMTV in February 2023 and his indictment for "breach of trust" and "passive private corruption" in December of the same year, the journalist Rachid M’Barki reappeared on Saturday, August 30, on the Instagram account of the Moroccan channel Medi 1 TV.

"I’ll see you every morning, from 8 to 9 am, we’ll go over the national and international news. We’ll also be interested in the economy, sports, we’ll browse the press and we’ll see what’s happening on the cultural side," said the former BFMTV journalist in a video posted on the Medi 1 TV Instagram account, where he is seen standing in the middle of a newsroom and displaying a wide smile. And he added: "Every morning, we’ll call 3 correspondents in Africa to find out their news. And after 9am, we’ll receive the guest of the morning show."

Rachid M’Barki was fired from BFMTV in February 2023 for having used his position as presenter of the "Journaux de la nuit" to broadcast erroneous information on behalf of foreign powers between 2021 and 2022, recalls Gala. The journalist would have broadcast briefs on Russian oligarchs, as well as on Morocco, Qatar, Sudan and Cameroon in exchange for money. The former star of channel 13 was indicted in December of the same year.

During his custody at the Brigade for the Repression of Economic Crime (BRDE), Rachid M’Barki acknowledged the facts. "I happened to receive sums of money [...] Yes, I acknowledge the facts of passive corruption," he admitted. Confessions reported by Le Parisien in April 2024, confirming the "large number of compromising messages for the journalist."
