BFMTV Fires Anchor Rachid M’Barki Amid Editorial Misconduct Investigation

The Altice group, owner of BFMTV and RMC, announced the dismissal of Rachid M’Barki, presenter of the BFMTV night news, for "passive corruption and breach of trust". This decision follows internal investigations conducted by the channel regarding the Moroccan-origin journalist’s actions.
The investigations revealed several sequences broadcast without respect for the validation processes and the editorial line, leading to the filing of a complaint against X. This event marks the end of a seventeen-year history between the journalist and the channel, which had known a long period of sidelining since a mistake made in 2012, recalls Telerama.
The presenter of Moroccan origin was a familiar face on BFMTV, where he had worked for seventeen years. His career had experienced a downfall after a mistake on his part in 2012, which had gradually relegated him to presenting the night news since 2014. His suspension in January had drawn the attention of the press, and the decision to fire him for "passive corruption and breach of trust" marks an important step in this case.
The investigations conducted by the Altice group made it possible to identify several sequences broadcast without respect for the validation processes and the editorial line, which led to the complaint against X filed by the channel. The management of BFMTV feels "betrayed" and "victim" of Rachid M’barki’s actions. In total, about a dozen briefs posed a problem, some of which had illustrations from outside, using propaganda-like wording, including that related to the Moroccan Sahara.
