Leishmaniasis Outbreak Spreads to New Moroccan Provinces, Alarming Parents and Officials

The spread of leishmaniasis disease in several Moroccan provinces is worrying the Parliament. A deputy has questioned the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, on this subject.
Deputy Hanane Atarguine questioned the Minister of Health and Social Protection on how to stop the spread of leishmaniasis disease in several provinces of the kingdom. According to her, Morocco has recorded several cases of leishmaniasis. "The registration of this disease in the province of Tiznit is unusual, which means that the disease has spread from one province to another. The appearance of this disease in the province of Tiznit among some students has caused great concern among parents and guardians of children, who fear the spread of the disease, especially in the school environment," the elected official said in her correspondence addressed to the Minister of Health. She calls on Khalid Ait Taleb to take emergency measures to curb the spread of leishmaniasis disease in the country.
Leishmaniasis is a disease transmitted by certain insects. It results from a parasitic infection transmitted by the bites of sand flies infected with the parasite. This disease results in a very low platelet and white and red blood cell count. It appears, at certain times of the year, in certain known regions of the kingdom.
